Ceramic tableware by Wonki Ware
Handmade ceramics from Wonki Ware appeal to us not only for their sleek design, but also for their robust sturdiness.
Bowls, plates, platters and more are produced in the Wonki Ware workshops in George, South Africa. They don't only look good, but feel good to touch, and as the name so aptly says, they are charmingly and subtly ‘wonki’, meaning not perfectly round. Every piece begins by a thin slab of clay being dried in a mould and then being shaped and glazed by hand. In total, 12 stages of work take place before any one piece is ready to take pride of place in somebody's home. Thanks to all that, each item of Wonki Ware is unique and slightly different to the next, but at the same time easily stackable.
The workshop only uses environmentally friendly materials, and all their glazes are free of heavy metals.
At Cape Times we have various ranges of Wonki Ware, all of which are easily and beautifully mixed and matched. Special orders can be arranged.
